Cheetahs and Whales

Friday 25th July

This morning saw us visit the eagerly awaited cheetah sanctuary where we were treated to a guided tour explaining the work they do to try and preserve the species. We were intrigued to hear about their programme of integrating young dogs into herds of farm animals to protect the farm from potential attackers. The agreement with the farmers is that they will not attempt to kill any animals in return for the gift of the dog and the funding for its upkeep. Many of the party then went in the enclosure with the cheetah and were able stroke the impressive beast.

We arrived in Hermanus in time for lunch before checking into our penultimate accommodation. Eating over the harbour, some of the boys were lucky enough to see Whales from our table. We all walked around the corner for dinner, enjoying “surf and turf” in the form of steak and prawns.

Saturday morning will see us depart to our game reserve at Aquila. We are all looking forward to trying to spot the “big five” on our two game drives during our final stage of tour.
